Police pay to increase in Bulgaria |

Speaking to journalists, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said the government had been doing its best to give policemen fast pay rises in recent years. After unveiling a road junction at Yablanitsa where the Sofia-Pleven-Rousse and Sofia-Veliko Turnovo-Varna roads intersect, he said that he valued highly the policemen's work. Stanishev explained that further efforts had been made to increase police salaries in recent months. Police investigators got a pay rise as part of the Interior Ministry's reform. The appropriation for the Ministry grows by the year but the problem is that about 80 per cent of it is spent on salaries, Stanishev said.
